The Adoption Process

If you're looking to be a first time donkey or mule owner, welcome! Most of our adopters are first time donkey or mule owners, we are happy to guide you through this to make it an enjoyable process. Want to read more about how to prepare to adopt a donkey or mule? Read our blog post here.

1. We highly recommend reading our 'Adoption Requirements' before applying to adopt a donkey from us. You can ready our adoption requirements here.

2. Filling out an adoption application is the next step in our adoption process. You can find the adoption application at the bottom of this page.

3. Once you fill out an adoption application and send it to us, we process it checking vet and farrier references. Once your application is approved we will get in touch with you about coming to meet some donkeys and mules and to see if there is a love match waiting for you!

4. Transporting your donkey(s) home! Arranging transport for your donkey or mule is the adopters responsibility. We occasionally offer transport within a 50 mile radius but we do charge for this service.

For a donkeys social and behavioral needs to be properly met, donkeys need other donkeys as a companions. This is especially true for young donkeys who are still developing behaviorally. For this reason, we will not adopt out single donkeys unless they are going home to be with another donkey. Mules make great companions for horses and other mules but are not suitable companions for donkeys. Horses, goats sheep, and chickens are also not suitable companions for donkeys. Please keep this in mind when adopting a donkey.
